The good news is that my own department, the Center for Economics and the Environment at Lindenwood University, remains among the top five academic departments in Missouri. Here is the ranking, which is taken from this page at RePEc and excludes the states' two Federal Reserve banks because of their idiosyncratic methods for counting people.
Rank | Department | Score |
1 | Department of Economics, Washington University in St. Louis | 2.75 |
2 | Olin School of Business, Washington University in St. Louis | 4.15 |
3 | Economics Department, University of Missouri | 5.01 |
4 | Center for Economics and the Environment, Lindenwood University | 8.5 |
5 | Department of Economics, University of Missouri-St. Louis | 11.3 |
The bad news is that my personal ranking has fallen from being tied in 17th place to being tied in 21st place after several higher-ranked economists moved into Missouri in the past 6 months or so. So let's count that as good news because it's always better to be surrounded by smart people. The ranking below uses RePEc's Wu-index, which is the most-sensible method that RePEc provides.
